St. Lawrence was one of the hardest-hit communities, with waves reaching over 7 meters high. The disaster claimed 27 lives in the town alone and destroyed homes, fishing stages, and wharves. A memorial plaque and the relocated “Cannon” now stand as quiet reminders of this tragic event.
3. The Frenchman’s Cove Rope Tow
St. Lawrence is home to one of Newfoundland’s oldest continuously operating rope tows (a simple ski lift) at Frenchman’s Cove.
